Stop Crabgrass Before It Starts.

If you’ve ever battled crabgrass, goosegrass, poa annua, or other invasive weeds, you already know — once you see them, it’s too late.

Safeguard 0-0-7 with .37% Prodiamine creates a powerful barrier in the soil that prevents weed seeds from germinating in the first place. The result is a cleaner, thicker, weed-free lawn without constant spraying or hand-pulling.

This is the same professional-grade active ingredient trusted by lawn care operators, now available for your home lawn.

What Safeguard Prevents

  • Crabgrass
  • Goosegrass
  • Poa annua (annual bluegrass)
  • Spurge
  • Chickweed
  • Oxalis
  • Dozens of other annual grassy and broadleaf weeds

Apply before soil temperatures reach 55°F in spring, or in early fall to prevent winter weeds. Timing is everything with pre-emergent control.

Why Choose 0-0-7 Instead of a Fertilizer Blend?

Safeguard contains 7% potassium (potash) and no nitrogen.

  • No unwanted early spring growth surge
  • Safe for dormant Bermuda, Zoysia, and St. Augustine lawns
  • Helps strengthen roots and improve stress tolerance
  • Ideal when you want weed prevention without pushing top growth

If you prefer nitrogen with your pre-emergent, consider Guardian 13-0-10 Pre-emergent Lawn Fertilizer instead.

Professional-Strength Formula

  • .37% Prodiamine for long-lasting residual control
  • Granular, easy-to-spread formulation
  • Professional-grade concentration
  • Excellent coverage per bag

Application Rate: Apply at 4–5 lbs per 1,000 square feet using a broadcast spreader.

Watering: Water in with ½ inch of irrigation or rainfall within 7 days to activate the barrier.

Ideal For

  • Bermuda grass
  • Zoysia grass
  • St. Augustine
  • Centipede
  • Cool-season lawns (when not seeding)
  • Landscape beds

Important: Do not apply if you plan to seed. Prodiamine prevents all seeds from germinating, including grass seed.

When to Apply

Spring Application: Apply before soil temperatures reach 55°F for 3–5 consecutive days.

Fall Application (Warm-Season Lawns): Apply in early fall to prevent poa annua and winter weeds.

For season-long protection, apply twice per year.

The Bottom Line

If you want a clean lawn without fighting crabgrass all summer, Safeguard 0-0-7 is the first step.

Apply it on time. Water it in. Enjoy a weed-free season.

When should I apply pre-emergent on my lawn?

Before soil temperatures reach 55 degrees consecutively is the best time to apply pre-emergent

Should I water in pre-emergent after I apply?

Yes, we recommend watering in directly after application to begin activation and crabgrass prevention

What is the difference between 0-0-7 and 13-0-10?

0-0-7 does not have any nitrogen and is great for lawns that are still dormant and you need to get protection down sooner. It will not promote growth. 13-0-10 contains nitrogen and will be available once activated to begin feeding the lawn. 13-0-10 is also good for lawns that are just beginning to come out of dormancy.

Reviews

Underwhelmed

"Put safeguard down in late March when soils temps were 57 degrees, and in the past 2 weeks have had more clover pop up then ever before. Lawn did look lush after applying though, just didn’t do a great job keeping weeds from germinating."

Dan D. (5/5)

Unfortunately, I was not happy

"Unfortunately, I was not happy with this product. I put this down twice, once in October and another time in early March. My yard had more weeds then it ever had this past winter. When I contacted support, I didn't get helpful feedback. My neighbor who now uses your product after I recommended you, had the same issues. It was very discouraging to look at our neighbors yards and not have these issues."

Eric O. (1/5)

To soon to tell

"I ordered my Spring Fertilizer with Pre-emergent. The lawn is very noticeably green and lush. . . but it is still April. so In June, when the crabgrass flourishes, I will tell you how pleased I am. I do plan to do my June, weed and feed from Synergy."

zainab V. (5/5)

Put it down about 3

"Put it down about 3 weeks ago and my lawn never looked better than it does now, used Scott’s weed and feed for years and there is no comparison, love it!"

Edward A. (5/5)

We are disappointed in the

"We are disappointed in the results. I applied it 3 times since October and I am still spraying for way too many weeds. The product did not perform well at all."

Stephen M. (1/5)

Excellent product! My zoysia grass

"Excellent product! My zoysia grass has greened up quicker than most other yard in the neighborhood and I've had very few weeds to co tent with this Spring. Highly recommend."

Nathan B. (5/5)

Did not seem to make

"Did not seem to make any difference. The Scotts I used last year worked much better. Now I am having to use Atrizine to treat all the weeds coming up."

Richard L. (1/5)

delighted with your product

"After two years using scotts, etc. , I used your pre-emergent product and my centipede lawn has almost fully recovered. I also used Celsius for visible weed control. Most stores products contain way too much nitrogen and not enough potassium for centipede. Now I will only buy your products."

David W. (4/5)

"Product delivered today will use before the weekend looking firward to a healthy lawn"

Q&A

I am wondering about the safety of your product for my small dogs that play in the backyard. How long do they need to stay off lawn after application? Thank you for the info as my dogs are very important to me. Sincerely, Kathy I am looking at the safeguard 007 pre emergent fertilizer. Thank you.
We suggest to water in the product first and then it would be safe for your pets.
How long do I have to wait to let pets of family walk on lawn after application?
As soon as it is watered in it is safe to walk on.
Would I be able to spray this onto my lawn?
No this is a granular fertilizer so a spreader is required
I planted seed this fall. I’m looking for what I can use in the spring as a pre-immersion crab grass on new seedlings plus possibility of additional seed growingin the spring. Thanks
Our 13-0-10 Guardian pre-emergent fertilizer is ideal in spring with 2 applications. However you will not be able to seed until fall. If you do need to germinate more seed, do not apply any pre-emergent.
Is it safe to spread pre emergent in early Nov.. on tall fescue?
Absolutely it will be fine. As long as all the seed is germinated.
