Product Description

Diquat Herbicide is a fast-acting, nonselective contact herbicide that quickly burns down unwanted grass and broadleaf weeds. It is ideal for spot treatments around driveways, sidewalks, patios, fence lines, landscape beds, buildings, parking areas, and other labeled non-crop sites.

  • Visible weed burndown within 24 to 36 hours
  • Controls both grassy and broadleaf weeds
  • Works in landscapes, non-crop areas, dormant turf, and aquatic sites
  • Excellent for edging and targeted spot treatments
  • Concentrated formula for professional-strength weed control

Best Uses

Use Diquat Herbicide to quickly eliminate unwanted vegetation along driveways, walkways, patios, fence lines, roadsides, parking lots, landscape-bed edges, and around buildings or other structures. It can also be used for turf renovation, weed control in fully dormant bermudagrass or zoysiagrass, and control of labeled floating, marginal, and submerged aquatic weeds.

Diquat is a contact herbicide, so complete coverage of the target vegetation is important. It damages the green plant tissue it contacts but does not move extensively through the plant. Established perennial weeds and deeply rooted plants may regrow and require another application or a labeled tank mix with a systemic herbicide.

Application Rate

Landscape and non-crop spot treatments: Mix 0.75 fluid ounce of Diquat Herbicide per gallon of water. Add a nonionic surfactant for efficient coverage.

Aquatic applications: Rates vary according to the target weed, water depth, treatment area, and application method. Follow the aquatic-use directions and water-use restrictions on the product label.

Important: Diquat Herbicide is nonselective and can severely injure or kill desirable grass, flowers, shrubs, crops, and other green vegetation. Prevent spray and drift from contacting plants you want to keep.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Diquat Herbicide selective or nonselective?

Diquat Herbicide is nonselective. It can damage or kill almost any green vegetation contacted by the spray, including desirable lawn grass, flowers, shrubs, and garden plants.

How quickly does Diquat Herbicide work?

Visible weed burndown can occur within 24 to 36 hours under favorable growing conditions. Cool or cloudy weather may slow visible activity.

Does Diquat Herbicide kill weeds down to the roots?

Diquat primarily works as a contact herbicide and damages the green tissue it directly covers. Deeply rooted perennial weeds may regrow and require repeat treatment or a labeled systemic herbicide.

What is the spot-treatment rate?

Mix 0.75 fluid ounce of Diquat Herbicide per gallon of water and add a nonionic surfactant containing at least 75% active ingredient at the surfactant’s labeled rate.

Is a surfactant required?

Yes. The label directs users to add a nonionic surfactant or another qualifying labeled adjuvant to terrestrial applications.

Can Diquat Herbicide be used on lawns?

It may be used on established bermudagrass and zoysiagrass only while the turf is fully dormant. Applying it to actively growing turf can cause serious or permanent injury.

Can it be used for turf renovation?

Yes. It is labeled to desiccate existing turf before renovation, except on commercial sod farms. The label recommends tank mixing with an appropriate systemic herbicide when longer-lasting control or suppression of regrowth is needed.

Can Diquat Herbicide control aquatic weeds?

Yes. It is labeled for certain floating, marginal, and submerged aquatic weeds in ponds, lakes, reservoirs, canals, drainage ditches, and other approved bodies of water.

Can I use Diquat Herbicide around ponds?

It may be used on dry, non-flooded areas around ponds and for labeled aquatic applications. Aquatic rates, permits, application methods, and water-use restrictions must be followed carefully.

Will rain reduce its effectiveness?

Rain or irrigation within 30 minutes after application can reduce herbicidal activity.
