- Yes, this product will control fire ants. For best results, here’s how to apply it: 1. Treat the whole lawn (broadcast application): Spread evenly over the lawn using a spreader Use about 2.3–4.6 lbs per 1,000 sq ft 2. Treat individual mounds (most important step):Apply ½ cup of granules directly on each mound. Then pour 1–2 gallons of water over the mound to soak it in. Break the top of the mound slightly so the product gets inside 3. Timing tips: Apply in the early morning or late evening Water the area lightly after application (but don’t cause runoff) This product will not deter ants. Re-application will be needed for continued control. I would recommend watering the product after application and once the lawn has dried, it will be pet safe.
