Product Description

Control tough weeds without delaying your seeding or lawn renovation project.

MESO 4 SC Select Herbicide contains 40% mesotrione and provides selective pre-emergent and post-emergent control of more than 45 broadleaf and grassy weeds. It is especially useful when establishing a new lawn because it can be applied before or at seeding on labeled turfgrasses.

MESO 4 SC controls difficult weeds such as crabgrass, nimblewill, creeping bentgrass, clover, chickweed, ground ivy, yellow nutsedge, dandelion, oxalis, and other weeds listed on the label.

Why Choose MESO 4 SC Select?

  • Use at Seeding: Helps control weeds while labeled grass seed is being planted and established.
  • Pre- and Post-Emergent Control: Controls weeds before they emerge and after they are actively growing.
  • Controls Tough Lawn Weeds: Effective against crabgrass, nimblewill, bentgrass, clover, chickweed, ground ivy, yellow nutsedge, and more.
  • Professional-Grade Mesotrione: Contains 40% mesotrione, a Group 27 herbicide that stops susceptible weeds from producing protective plant pigments.

Best Uses

  • New lawn seeding and renovation
  • Overseeding labeled turfgrasses
  • Controlling weeds in tall fescue and Kentucky bluegrass lawns
  • Targeting nimblewill and unwanted creeping bentgrass
  • Post-emergent spot treatments for actively growing weeds

Application Rate

For Spot Treatments: Use the included measuring syringe to measure 1 teaspoon of MESO 4 SC Select and mix it with 2 gallons of water. Add 3 teaspoons of non-ionic surfactant.

Apply the finished spray at approximately 1 gallon per 1,000 sq ft. A 2-gallon mixture treats approximately 2,000 sq ft.

Using the Included Syringe: The syringe includes teaspoon and gallon-of-water markings to make measuring the correct amount easier. Draw the product to the appropriate mark for the amount of water in your sprayer.

For Post-Emergent Control: Apply to young, actively growing weeds and spray evenly. Difficult weeds may require a second application 2–3 weeks later.

For Seeding and Lawn Renovation: MESO 4 SC Select may be applied before seeding, at seeding, or immediately after seeding labeled turfgrasses. Do not apply to newly germinated grass. Wait until the new grass has been mowed 2–4 times or at least four weeks after emergence, whichever is longer.

Important: Do not make a broadcast application to an established residential lawn unless it is being reseeded or renovated. Always confirm your grass type is listed and follow the complete product label.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

It controls more than 45 labeled weeds, including crabgrass, nimblewill, creeping bentgrass, clover, chickweed, ground ivy, dandelion, yellow nutsedge, oxalis, henbit, foxtail, wild violet, and others.

Yes. MESO 4 SC can be applied before seeding, at seeding, or immediately after seeding on tolerant turfgrasses. It is commonly used during overseeding and complete lawn renovation.

No. Do not spray newly germinated turf. Wait until the new grass has been mowed 2–4 times or four weeks have passed after emergence, whichever is longer.

MESO 4 SC can control crabgrass when applied according to the label. It works best on young crabgrass and will require repeat applications for stronger post-emergent control.

Whitening is a normal effect of mesotrione. Susceptible weeds lose chlorophyll, turn white, stop growing, and then decline over time.

Visible whitening may appear within about a week, but complete control can take up to three weeks depending on weed size, weather, and application timing.

For post-emergent applications, the label recommends adding a non-ionic surfactant.

Yes, it has pre-emergent activity, but dry conditions can reduce performance. The label notes that irrigation or rainfall may be needed to activate it after application.

Temporary turf whitening can occur. Use only on labeled turfgrass species and follow the correct rate to reduce the risk of injury.

Labeled turfgrasses include tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass, centipedegrass, buffalograss, perennial ryegrass, certain fine fescues, and St. Augustinegrass grown for sod. Rates and restrictions vary by turf type.
