Don’t Just Plant Seed—Give It What It Needs to Grow

When you plant new grass, the biggest challenge isn’t just getting it to sprout—it’s getting it to establish strong roots.

Starter fertilizer is designed specifically for new seed or sod, with higher phosphorus to help roots develop quickly and absorb nutrients more efficiently.

Without it, your lawn may come in thinner, slower, and less resilient.

Lawn Synergy 15-20-10 Starter Fertilizer is specifically formulated to support early root development, uniform establishment, and steady growth during the critical first weeks after seeding or sodding.

Not All Starter Fertilizers Are the Same

  • 15-20-10 Formula - High phosphorus for faster root development
  • Slow-Release Nitrogen - Feeds longer for continuous growth.
  • Micronutrients - Darker green color with iron and needed nutrients.

This balanced nutrient profile supports young turf when root development matters most.

Why Starter Fertilizer Matters

Without Starter Fertilizer, New grass struggles to develop strong roots early on.

That can lead to:

  • Thin, patchy growth
  • Slower germination
  • Weak turf that doesn't fill in propertly

Starter fertilizer gives new grass exactly what it needs during the most important stage of growth.

When to Apply

Use at the Time of Seeding or Overseeding

  • New Lawn installations
  • Overseeding thin or patchy areas
  • Sod installation

Starter fertilizer is most effective when applied at the time of planting, helping seeds establish faster and stronger.

Lawn Synergy 15-20-10 provides the structured, professional nutrition your lawn needs during establishment — when root development determines long-term success.

Should I apply starter fertilizer when seeding or wait until it germinates?

We highly recommend applying starter fertilizer at the time of seeding. .

Can I use starter fertilizer to aid in correcting phosphorus and potassium deficiencies?

Absolutely. Starter fertilizer contains both a healthy dose of both potassium and phosphorus which will aid in correcting deficiencies.

When to put down starter fertilizer after overseeding?

We recommend applying starter fertilizer at the same time of aeration and overseeing. Core aeration is always best and it will also help move phosphorus down into the soil layer.

Lawn Synergy products are the

"Lawn Synergy products are the absolute best! From the fertilizers to the grass seeds, our lawn looks healthy and wealthy! We made the switch to using your products earlier this summer and after seeing the results for the past several months I can say we will only be using Lawn Synergy from now on. Your products definitely have our attention and the attention of our neighbors! While working in the yard throughout the summer, we’ve had several neighbors comment on how great our lawn looks and we were even told “we had the best yard in the neighborhood”. Thank you Lawn Synergy for the amazing products that are producing eye catching results!"

Reseeded Entire Yard Late September

"I used this as directed after detaching, triple core ariation, and slit-seeding with Synergy Envy. I had germination and new grass at the 1 inch mark on the 7th day with a deep green color. I live in Central Illinois and we are under drought conditions with very high temps in late September and early October. I did apply a small layer of peat moss over my entire yard to help keep the seed moist with the heat we had fueling and after planting. I did water 3 times per day with an irrigation system. Completely happy with the seed and the starter fertilizer. I highly recommend!"

When do I reapply? I love the results already. I have St Augustine grass in east Texas
You can reapply in 5-6 weeks. If your area, you can apply emerald 10-0-20 next.

Suggest applying fertilizer again in 6 weeks.
I have a new sod lawn in North TX. I was going to apply this. Is now a good time? The law is established now and about two months old most areas and over a month old in others. I wanted to fertilize to help it grow its roots.
Yes, this would be a great choice for new sod or new seed.
